The St. Louis Park community is dedicated to the environment and making the town a beautiful place to live. The city's 2007 Vision program brought residents together in an effort to become environmental stewards by raising awareness and trying to make a difference. The city hopes to have at least 1,000 residents sign up for the program which promotes the use of alternative fueled vehicles, promoting healthier tap water and more. The program also encourages residents and members to change to more efficient light bulbs in their homes and donating memorial trees and benches for area parks. The St. Louis Park Fire Department has 24 full time staff members and 30 on-call staff members who are ready and trained to respond to emergencies of all kinds. Whether it is a burning home, a hazardous material leak or a medical response emergency, the fire department is standing by to help. There are two fire stations located in St. Louis Park - one at 3750 Wooddale Avenue and the other at 2262 Louisiana Avenue. The Westwood Hills Nature Center is a unique facility in St. Louis Park that promotes environmental awareness and natural history. The facility offers a scouting program which ranges from Daisies to Ambassadors and from Cub Scouts to Eagle Scouts. Groups of scouts go out on nature service projects to clean up certain areas and explore the environment to learn more about their natural surroundings. The St. Louis Park Recreation Center, located at 3700 Monterey Drive, is a premier facility which offers an outdoor aquatic park, indoor ice arenas and more. You can rent out the center's banquet room for your large party or event which overlooks the aquatic park and Wolfe Park. The facility makes a great place for birthday parties, receptions, seminars, meetings and more. The banquet room seats up to 160 people and it has a dance floor, a sound system and a special lighting system. Fees range from $50 to $60 per hour depending on if you are a resident of St. Louis Park and there is a two hour minimum.
